5 Signs You Need a New Job (or a Completely New Career)

If you’re currently miserably slumped over your desk at your boring job, dreaming about tossing it all aside and heading to the beach, then this article may be for you.

This may be a clear indication that it’s time for a new job (or an entirely new career). However, sometimes the signs aren’t as obvious. Here are a few not-so-obvious signs you might experience in order to know that it’s time for a change.

1. You Lack Motivation

Although we all have days where we’d rather be doing anything else, this shouldn’t be the day-to-day norm. If this is you, you’d understand that even though you do get your work done, it always feels as though it’s taking the life out of you and instead of doing your best, you’ll just scrape through with the bare minimum.

If you find that you’re always feeling sluggish, unmotivated and disinterested, this should be a clear indicator that it’s time to move onto better things.

2. Your Tasks Haven’t Changed Since Day One

If nothing has changed since your first day on the job then you haven’t been challenged to push your boundaries and try new tasks. This often means that you haven’t gained any knowledge or experience. If you realise that you’ve been stuck in the same tasks for too long then we suggest talking to your boss or finding a new role that allows you to expand your horizons.

3. You’re Constantly Stressed and Irritable

Once again, a small amount of stress is normal in certain tasks. In some cases, a little bit of stress can motivate you. However, if you notice that the constant stress is dragging you down, it’s worth looking into some new opportunities.

You may catch yourself  feeling constantly grouchy and snappy, even towards loved ones. This may also be a sign that it’s time to move to a position that makes you feel a lot happier.

4. You’re Never Excited To Go To Work

If you can’t remember the last time you felt at least a tiny bit excited or motivated to get into work, then that’s an issue. Although you can’t expect to feel enthusiastic every single day, it’s in your best interest to find something that kindles your passion.

5. You Have Thought of Getting a New Job

The fact that you’re reading this article is probably enough of an indication that you’re thinking about finding something new. If you’ve been pondering over the thought of leaving your job, the chances are that it’s for good reason.  You should take this as a sign that it’s time to start job searching.

If you’re highly considering doing something completely new in your career, then you should highly consider an internship . Internships give people an opportunity to dip their feet into completely new fields.

At EU Travellers, we pair up people and job opportunities in the sunny Mediterranean Island of Malta. So whilst you’re learning all about your field of choice, you’ll also be spending your time on an island where it’s summer all year round.
